Best places for photography in Kolkata



Kolkata is a place with many hidden jewels in terms of artists, foods, and places where you get a scope of exploring many things. If you just walk around the streets crossing from the landmark places like Victoria Memorial, Nandan, and Maidan you can see people with their cameras doing many creative kinds of stuff. However, there are some places where you must visit and capture some cool snaps.


Ghats

Starting from James Priensep Ghat in the south to Bagbazar Ghat in the north, there are many riverside places that you can consider as the location of your pictures. It purely depends on the theme of the photography you are trying to capture. Street or conceptual storytelling photography will be a bit harder in the places like Millennium Park and James Priensep Ghat but will be a good location for pre-wedding and model photoshoots. On the other hand, the ghats in north Kolkata are a good choice for both pre-wedding and street photography. The old houses and the narrow lanes of north Kolkata are the most interesting elements that attract the attention of photographers. But speaking about the ghats you can see people doing their daily stuff like bathing and washing clothes and on the stairs, young people are busy with their jamming sessions and gossip. It creates a different environment that can be felt in the artworks of different people.


Graffiti Warehouse

This place is located particularly near Rabindra Sarobar and recently became famous among the young population of Kolkata. Lake Garden Graffiti Warehouse does not have a specific history to talk about but it is not important at all because if you are an art lover you will instantly fall in love with this place. It is an abandoned place now and there is nothing like the main entrance as you will have to find a short passage from the boundary wall if you are visiting for the very first time. There is a large hall that occupies most of the premises followed by a basketball court and covered will graffiti art. If you are planning to shoot some kind of dance videos this is a highly recommended place and you can get some good background as well as colour in your photographs.


Nakhoda Masjid

One of the underrated places in Kolkata that people hardly visit but this place is quite famous among the photography community. Nakhoda Masjid is located on MG Road near the Burrabazar area and it grabs the attention of all the people passing by the street. It was built in the year 1926 by the Kutchi Memons who have a separate history behind shaping the architectural reputation of Kolkata. A huge entrance at the front of the Masjid will tell you about the architectural values of the structure. The prime colour of the Masjid is red or any kind of combination of red and a golden mixture, the composition looks great in a picture. If you are trying to capture a minimalist photograph then Nakhoda Masjid is a must-visit place for you.


Santosh Mitra Square

You have surely heard about this place during Durga Puja as the local club is responsible for organizing one of the biggest pujas in the city. But if you are looking to click some random Kolkata street pictures then you will find enough lanes near Santosh Mitra Square. There are a few lanes starting from behind the local club which have colorful houses and if you are lucky enough you might encounter hand-pulling rickshaws that can increase the aesthetic of your picture. However, it is necessary to spend time in these lanes for capturing some good stuff and surely it will not disappoint you.


If you are a street photographer then you must not think about any particular location for capturing stories. You need to keep your eyes open always for hunting, but it doesn’t mean that you click whatever you see and whatever you do. After all it is your choice but you must prefer quality over quantity and try to click one best picture with everything perfect rather than clicking in bulk.
