Asia's biggest flower market

Mallick Ghat flower market is Asia’s largest wholesale flower market, situated in Kolkata. It is a riot of colors with nearly 4000 vendors selling flowers of different kinds starting from marigold and jasmine to imported lilies; varieties of orchids are also available here. Just below the Howrah Bridge, on the banks of river Hooghly at Mallick Ghat, a unique tradition of buying and selling flowers has been taking place every morning for more than 160 years now. The existence of this place started back in 1855 when Ram Mohan Mallick built the Ghat.

The most interesting fact about this Ghat is it doesn’t limit the supply of flowers to Kolkata only but also internationally to Amsterdam, Dubai, and Auckland. It is a sight to see that so many people earn their livelihood and an equal number of people buy flowers.

Mallick Ghat Flower market doesn’t fail to attract tourists and even local people who want to explore places with a combination of beauty ,aesthetic-ness, and chaos for the day. Now it has become a place for many young, aspiring photographers who have a keen interest in street photography and heritage.
